Lyric Analysis (Annotated)

[Intro]
Aaauhah
Aaauhah
Aaauhah
Aaauhah
Hustla baby
Hustla baby
Aaauhah
Aaauhah
Oooh myyyy!

The beginning is simply a series of sound effects and essentially the build up to the chorus, in most of the artists tracks he features ("aah aah aah aaah") etc.

[Chorus]
Dem boy paigon
I can’t stand them
I don’t trust you, if you ain’t mandem
They wanna do me, imma do you
Before you do me, imma do you
Before you do me
You must’ve lost your mind
Small boy take your time
Me say take your time
You must’ve lost your mind
Small boy take your time

The First Chorus, is basically suggesting: "Dem boy paigon" means you traitors I don't trust you if you aint mandem (loyal followers).
Before you do me, imma do you etc, he is going to handle the rest of them before they get down to doing (betraying) him.

[Verse 1]
All these niggas turn fake as their time goes by
All I need, all I need is my ride or die
Yo B, what’s your name what’s your number
Face looking pretty but I’m staring at your (Aaauhah)
And she don’t want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from her
Zim zimmer, who’s got the keys to the bimmer
Ride for my G’s and their ain’t no team realer
J Hus enter the place
Big fat tool on my waist
Dem boy paigon
You can’t bring ‘em round me
Are you mad, you de craze
Are you mad, you de craze

This verse is speaking about how everyne is no longer official or real as the time goes by (i.e. everyone is false faced and acting (pretending to be someone they are not...)) The final lines of this verse speak about: dem boy paigon (betrayers), you can't bring around me (don't bring them when I am around etc), are you mad, you dey craze x2 (are you crazy) this means you must be crazy to bring traitors and those I cannot trust to me..etc..

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
Sexy girl called China
Make you wanna wine and dine her
But one man can’t satisfy her
She needs more wood for the fire
And if you don’t wanna dance to the beat
Just bop your head to the beat
I invested in heat
So let a paigon try me
Now he’s thinking why me
J Hus enter the scene
Big fat tool in my jeans
Dem boy paigon
Don’t bring ‘em round me
Are you mad, are you lean
Are you mad, are you lean
Ohhh, they don’t wanna grind
Go get a day job, go bill a line, I said ohhh
Go get a day job, go bill a line, I said ohhh
Go get a day job, go bill a line, I said ohhh
Go get a day job, go bill a line

-  This line suggests that the lead singer has a job etc and those who bertrayed him are at a loss as he is still fine and still perfectly functional. He displays this by saying to them to go and get a "day job" instead always rolling the night and doing nothing holding any value during the day.

Location Recce

Film Studio
The film studio located in A22 at Leyton Sixth Form College is a perfect location for filming the skeleton of our music video. This is due to the fact that it has a black background accompanied by a variety of lighting equipment which means that we will be able to film various different effects to be more appealing to our target audience. Also, the area in the film studio is big, therefore we will be able to film from various angles which is vital for our music video.

Essex Road

Essex Road is located directly next to the college and when me and my partner were looking around we found a nice wall which was a good height to be able to record one of our cutscenes. It is very local so we can record during college hours and it will fit into the theme of grime/rap music which is our genre.
Whilst researching about music within our genre i found several music videos whereby the main actor was sitting on a wall, or a higher object, and looking down into the camera. We will be able to in cooperate some of the more meaningful lyrics into this cutscene.

Stratford Residential Flats.

These flats were good in terms of location and how attractive they looked, they were located next to the West Field shopping center, so if we needed any last minute props we could easily fetch them from nearby shops.
We filmed our scene with the suits here, this was essential since it would link together much better if rich clothing is worn in rich areas and poor or perhaps casual clothing is worn in poorer/low class areas...

This was also a good location to film in because it is also a convention of rap/grime video to be set in areas where buildings are tall and there are a  large number of balconies. An example of this is a video being set in council estates.
The area is safe with on site security so we faced no dangers and if any were to arise we would have been assisted by site security.

Studio Scenes

The Studio is most likely, the safest and most popular place to film. We have used it for the skeleton of our music video. The film studio we plan to use is in our College (Leyton Sixth Form College). In the film studio there are few hazards in the studio which need to be taken into consideration to avoid any accidents or injuries.

The setting of our scene involves low levels of lighting for an intended effect of darkness where the area around the actor matches their emotional state (darkness: betrayal. loneliness etc).
Hazards in this area include wiring which should be taken care of carefully since it is a tripping hazard.
One other hazard in the studio is the actual studio lights: if they are not being used they should then be turned off since they heat up ridiculously quick and should turned off when not needed.
Lastly when operating or filming then all bags and other belongings should be moved out of the way since that is another tripping hazard.

Essex Road

This scene on Essex road is set outside with a camera and a tripod, therefore there was no risk of wires getting in the way. However for the first camera angle, we had to use the tripod on part of the road where cars were driving by, therefore there was a risk of drivers not seeing the camera and tripod. However, we can use one of our bags as a warning to cars that we are recording, therefore they know from a distance to avoid driving into the tripod. Also, the street is lob sided, therefore we have to be careful that the tripod did not fall over and break the camera.

Stratford Residential Area.

In the Stratford Residential Area near the Olympic Park there were very little risks, this area was useful for our video, since it looked attractive and linked well to why we were wearing the suits, i.e. suit - rich area, tracksuits. baggy clothing - lower class/poorer areas. This location was important to our video since, locations where there are tall buildings and lots of balconies are a convention of rap videos hence the urban culture/lifestyle displayed in urban dramas or other videos. There were no potential threats in this location, however if any did arise, we would immediately seek advice or assistance from the on site security.

Team Meeting 2 (19/10/16)

Team Meeting

We started to edit our music video, however when asking our teacher to review our progress so far she said that our video was slightly out of focus which means that we are going to go back to the film studio and record in focus with more angles and then replace the out of focus scenes with the new ones. We also planned what type of cut scenes are going to go where in certain parts of the music video so that once we finish with the film studio we can immediately go into shooting the other scenes as quickly as possible to leave as much editing time as possible. We believe that the editing will take a long time with the ideas which we are planning to do, therefore we are going to work harder to complete preliminary tasks which are due as well as shooting the relevant shoots needed for our music video.

Filming - Street and Road Scenes

Our lesson was cancelled in the morning therefore me and my partner decided to go back into the film studio and record more footage and to replace the old, unfocused, footage from our pervious shooting. After shooting various different angles in the film studio we then decided to go into the street outside of college and film the wall scenes whereby the main actor (arshyarn) sits on the wall and performs then lip sync of the song with a few different shot types and angles.

So far we have recorded most of the skeleton for our music video and now we are going to begin recording the planned cut scenes which will be introduced in-between most of the scenes which have been shot already. We are going to be doing the scenes such as the scenes in suits, scene with a girl, etc. We found it difficult to record the wall scene due to the fact that our tripod had to be in a portion of the road, therefore we placed the tripod bag next to our camera so that we made it clear to passing vehicles that we are recording.

Film Studio Booked - Monday 10/10/2016

We are beginning the shooting of our music video on monday and we have booked the film studio at leyton sixth form college from 10:20- 11:30. In this scene, we are going to record the whole song with different camera angles and then we are going to add various parts of the song when editing the cutscenes later on in the production. For this shoot, we are going to wear alternate colours so that in the editing it will add a special effect which will stand out to our target audience. I am going to be wearing a grey tracksuit and my partner Ash is going to be wearing a black tracksuit. Throughout the video the 2 colours will alternate and we are also planning to black out our faces so that only the outline of us can be seen for the film studio scene.

Grey Tracksuit

This is the style of costumes which we plan to use for the costumes in our music video.
This will be Tyreeks main costume.

Black Track Suit.
Black track suits will be worn by me (Arshyarn). This is my main costume.

Team Meeting 1 (11/10/16)

After filming in the film studio on monday, we had a team meeting and throughout about what we could add to this scene that will make it more appealing to the audience and show evidence of our editing skills. We then decided to add text in the background of some of the important lyrics which was being performed by our main actor. We got this idea, not from our case studies, but from music that we have listened to, and seen, before on youtube. The videos which we are trying to base our idea on is called Daily Duppies...

In this video, the way the text comes into the black background is very effective and we believe that if we can do a similar idea in our film studio scene then it will look very appealing and will emphasise the lyrics being said in the song. Another idea which we were thinking of was to introduce some of the actors within the intro of the music video. The effect will be very quick and flow with the song; We got this idea from one of our case studies when I analysed Akon- Holiday, and at the beginning of the video, there was text saying the musician and directors name. We are planning to slow down some of the scenes into a freeze frame during the intro and then add in some text of a couple of the main actors stage names.

Day One - Filming (Studio Scene)

Filming Day One.

Our first day of filming was a success. Arshyarn lip synched to the track. We decided it to be darker so we made use of the studio lights to give a dark and mean look, linking to the characters emotions, Arshyarn performed and included different gestures linking to the words in the lyrics.

From this filming session we learned more things about lighting and camera positioning.

Story Board - By Arshyarn

Story Boards + Description of Content.

1. Our Cutscene is significant to our music video because the song revolves around what happens in the cutscene. In explanation: the song is titled "Can't Trust No One." As it seen above, we can tell clearly that there has been a betrayal. Arshyarn has been betrayed by Tyreek and beaten up by Tyreek and a friend of his. So overall our cutscene is one of the most important pieces of our video.

 2. This is another location where we plan to film Arshyarn lip synching the track walking down the road. This is important because different locations and shot variety are a convention of rap videos.

3. The Studio scene is relevant to our music video, because this is a convention of music videos in general, there would be a scene (in the majority of music videos) where there is the lead singer in the booth or studio singing into the microphone. We shot this scene on the 10th of October 2016. This is a popular convention of many music videos which is why we plan to feature it our video.

4 and 5. 4. One of our scenes consists of the lead singer and other performers lip synching and dancing to the track. This was another location which was important, because it shows some relationship between the actors (handshakes) and the location links well to street life and the location links well to emotions (betrayal etc). Different camera angles, zooming in on hands to show gestures, zooming in on faces to show facial expressions. We plan to have on screen bold and capitalized letters for certain lyrics of the song.

 6. For this sequence we it would be good for a girl to dance in this scene because it links well to the lyrics: "sexy girl called Chyna". We also felt that we would introduce a lighter because it links well to the lyrics when they speak about "wood for the fire". Also to change up costumes and make the video more stylish we plan to put on suits for one scene and rap with them on, this links well to the lyrics "go get a day job". Variety of shots and different camera angles. Zooming in on hands because the hand gestures send a message as well as the lyrics.

7. This scene is the final chorus, we plan to act in a similar way for this scene just like the other scenes, With a variety of camera shots and angles zooming in on hands and faces, We also plan to include the lyrics on screen in large bold letters to make the video more engaging and attractive. Since if there is not much action on screen the audience will lose interest so it is important to keep them engaged.
